Safety

The Safety Department places a high priority on the safety of all SEVTC residents and staff members. It is our mission is to assure the safety and health of all by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in safe and healthy practices.

The Workplace Safety program objectives include improving the safety of the work environment through the recognition, evaluation, and control of hazardous conditions; reducing the numbers and severity of injuries to residents, and staff through training and implementation of safe work practices; and complying with regulatory requirements of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and various state and local codes.

These objectives are accomplished through:

• Safety training to management and, staff on a variety of topics such as electrical safety, slips and falls, back care, computer workstations ergonomics, and safe maintenance practices;

• Investigations of workplace accidents;

• Regular safety surveys of various workplaces and the campus grounds both inside and out;

• A wide variety of safety programs such as construction safety, electrical safety, accident prevention, and emergency action planning.

• It is the goal of the Safety Department to maintain an excellent safety record at SEVTC.

• Security/Reception
  Our security/reception staff controls the front reception area 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The reception area is the hub of all communications for routine calls, emergencies and visitation. Reception clerks must be well-versed in SEVTC policies on emergency response when called upon in a crisis. The second security personnel scheduled during evening and night shifts makes routine cottage-to-cottage rounds every two hours on the campus of SEVTC. They stay alert for suspicious visitors or actions that might need further investigation. They assist staff moving about on the campus when requested and are, at all times, connected by radio to Reception for any concerns.
